ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Established in 1987, the BakerRipley Dementia Day Center, formerly known as Sheltering Arms Senior Services, is the first dementia-specific adult day center in Houston. We are licensed by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission and our staff is trained in dementia care best practices.
We believe that individuals with dementia deserve a nurturing space to engage in a purposeful and meaningful life, no matter their challenges. The BakerRipley Dementia Day Center is the only center in the Greater Houston area accepting individuals from early to moderate-late dementia. This allows us to be there for the family as the disease progresses, without having to go through a sometimes confusing change of environment.

The BakerRipley Dementia Day center provides meaningful experiences for persons with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia to participate in enrichment activities – while also providing caregiver support, through its Caregiver Resource Center and other initiatives. Our focus is on quality of care over time where our staff can develop relationships with the member and better manage their care as their dementia progresses. Our staff to participant ratio is 1:6, which is lower than the state requirement of 1:8, allowing for more individualized interaction.
